The nominees for 2012 American Music Awards have been announced. Nicki Minaj and Rihanna have got the maximum nominations.
Nicki Minaj and Rihanna are leading the number of nominations with four each, whereas teen sensation Justin Bieber and boyband One Direction has been nominated in three categories. The males get three nominations each along with Drake, Usher and Maroon 5.
24-year old Rihanna has been nominated for the top honor, Artist of the Year. She will be competing with pop-rockers Maroon 5, Katy Perry, Bieber and Canadian rapper Drake. She has also been nominated for female soul/R&B artist and album for ‘Talk That Talk’. She will be competing against 29-years old Nicki Minaj in the female pop/rock artist category.
This year, Nicki Minaj has received two nominations for her album ‘Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded’ in both the pop/rock and rap/hip hop categories. She has also been nominated for favorite rap artist where she will be competing against Drake and American newcomer Tyga.
The American Music Awards have introduced a category following the footsteps of Grammy Awards which paid a special tribute to electronic dance music. David Guetta, Calvin Harris and Skrillex have been nominated in this category.
To determine the winner, the online voting has began from October 9. The awards ceremony is scheduled to be held at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles on November 18.
